Adding fuel to previously discussed rumors here, middleweight contender Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza has signed a deal with Strikeforce, according to MMAJunkie.com. Jacare had made his home in the Japanese DREAM organization but it is unclear whether his new Strikeforce contract is exclusive or will still allow him to compete in DREAM or other organizations. Here, MMAJunkie cites a report regarding Jacare’s Strikeforce debut:
GracieMag.com’s report cites a potential Oct. 25 Strikeforce debut for Souza, a date the outlet states will also feature the organizational debut of recent signing Fedor Emelianenko. The report also states Fresno, Calif., is a likely location for the as-yet-unannounced event.
The addition of Jacare into the Strikeforce talent pool in the same week that Fedor and Gegard Mousasi have been added represents a true strengthening of the roster. Whether the UFC will continue to regard Strikeforce as a non-threat is yet to be seen.
