Great moments in Brock Lesnar history: Brock throws around Big Show

August 15, 2009

When Brock Lesnar was in OVW as a developmental wrestler, it was noted how insane his suplexes were.  Insanely strong and used to throwing around big dudes in legitimate competition, his suplexes on cooperating pro wrestlers were like nothing anyone had ever seen before.  Once he was called up to the main roster and quickly won the WWE title, he had two obvious potential challengers: Kurt Angle, the only ex-amateur in the company even more decorated than Lesnar, and the Big Show, the giant who only Brock Lesnar could suplex at will.

Brock Lesnar v. Strikeforce?

August 12, 2009

brock-lesnar-angry-200
Strikeforce has done it now! They’ve woken the sleeping giant. UFC President Dana White is going at them now with both barrels. MMA fans will now have a choice this weekend: they can watch Gina Carano vs. Cris Cyborg in the first ever major show headlined by women, OR they can watch select bouts from UFC 100 on SPIKE TV. The show was headlined by a UFC Heavyweight title fight between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir.

The UFC now seems likely to counter program any major card by a competitor. It made a similar move last year when it went head to head with Affliction: Banned. In that case, the UFC actually aired a live Fight Night card. Although this show isn’t big enough to warrant it, I suspect Fedor Emelianenko’s debut in October will be met with stiffer resistance.

Jim Ross: Brock not offered $40 million by WWE

August 9, 2009

Jim Ross is back again, blogging like the kids do. In between BBQ plugs, he talks a bit about WWE’s final offer to Brock Lesnar before he left for football, failed, then fell back to MMA.

Yes, the story that I blogged recently about the WWE NOT offering Brock Lesnar something like $40M for a seven year deal is accurate. Those numbers are not even close. Lesnar was likely offered a $1M guarantee with the opportunity to earn much more. There’s a legit chance that Lesnar could have earned close to that much over a 7 year period as he made it north of the $1M mark faster than any one, I think, in WWE history. I think it would be cool to see WWE do a Lesnar DVD and pick up some of his comments from his WWE days and get comments from Lesnar’s WWE peers about their thoughts on Brock then and Brock now. That’s just a suggestion by the way so before the bus runs over me remember the key word here is “suggestion.”

It looks like Lesnar did well to make the move to the UFC. The downside guarantee is a bit higher on that proposed WWE deal, but it would take him much longer to earn the money from the much smaller pot of WWE PPV revenue. Besides, in wrestling he was on the road every night. In the UFC he is at home all but a few weeks out of the year, shooting bears, chopping logs, and making babies. Win-Win for Mr. Lesnar.

Jim Cornette on Lesnar: He Gets Heat Everywhere He Goes

August 6, 2009

JimCornette

Legendary wrestling manager Jim Cornette had a tough job when he ran Ohio Valley Wrestling. He had to get social misfits like Brock Lesnar ready for a hard and stressful job in pro wrestling. Cornette is one of the best talkers in wrestling history and appeared on Who’s Slamming Who on the Pod-o-matic online service to explain why Brock Lesnar was a great heel in real life, bigger than he ever could have been in wrestling.

Wrestling Fans: Lesnar Hates You!

August 5, 2009

brockwwe
Attention wrestling fans: Brock Lesnar does not want your love. He despises you. The business you love, the art of professional wrestling? He hates it. Hated being a part of it. He has written you out of his life.

Brock hates wrestling so much, he doesn’t even like to talk about it. Our special contributor Jonathan Snowden tried to ask him about it. Ask him how that went sometime. Yet wrestling fans have come over in droves to support Brock’s fights in the UFC. Camel Clutch doesn’t get it and neither do I.

Kenny Florian: “I was a little upset with Brock”

August 2, 2009

There has been a lot of debate online about whether Brock Lesnar’s post-fight antics after his victory over Frank Mir were good or bad for the sport. Kenny Florian is coming down on the “bad” side of the fence.

There are certain people that already have a negative perception of Mixed Martial Arts and to see Brock go out there and do that thing and let his emotions get the best of him, left a bad taste in my mouth…It could rub people the wrong way. It could turn them off.

Many pro wrestling fans point to Brock’s success as a PPV draw as an indication that his actions draw in fans. While that has been true to this point, time will tell whether his long term impact is as positive as his undeniable initial explosion onto the scene. It could be that Brock Lesnar is a fighter who is a strong positive with young wrestling fans, while simultaneously turning off older fans used to more sportsmanship and disinterested in professional wrestling promos. Could it be both side are right?

Brock Lesnar’s shameful antics

Nothing says “Pro-wrestling antics” like attacking a poor shark. if you ask me we need a hero like Fedor or Shane Carwin to come save that shark from Brock.
